Autism Spectrum Disorders Graduate Program

The Department of Special Education, University of Kansas, offers both a master's and doctoral degree program with an emphasis in Autism Spectrum Disorders.
The Autism Spectrum Disorders Master's degree program prepares education and service professionals for careers that involve children and youth with autism, Asperger Syndrome, and other pervasive developmental disorders. The program covers characteristics; assessment; curriculum, social, communication, and behavior interventions; and sensory and motor issues. Coursework addresses the complex needs of students with ASD, including those who require intensive and highly individualized programs to those who require less intensive modifications to succeed in a general education environment.
The Ed.D. and Ph.D. degree programs are designed to prepare students for leadership careers related to serving individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders, including teacher preparation, research, policy and consultation. Students participate in individually tailored major and minor areas of doctoral coursework that prepare them for personnel preparation, research, and policy enhancement roles related to students and families with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Undergraduate and Graduate Programs in Autism Intervention
Department of Applied Behavioral Science, University of Kansas
The Department of Applied Behavioral Science at the University of Kansas offers an undergraduate specialty area in Early Childhood Autism Intervention and a master’s and doctoral program in which graduate students may also specialize in autism intervention.
The undergraduate specialty area in Early Childhood Autism Intervention prepares service professionals for careers in applied behavior analysis working with children with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders. This specialty area requires general coursework in behavioral science, its application, research methods, and conceptual foundations; specialized coursework in child development, curriculum development, and the assessment and treatment of problem behavior in children with autism; and a two-semester supervised practicum.The curriculum fulfills the course requirements for the Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst examination.
The master’s and doctoral programs prepares students for teaching, research, consulting, and administrative careers in applied behavior analysis working with children with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders. The degrees require coursework in behavioral science, its application, research methods, and conceptual foundations; specialized coursework in the assessment and treatment of problem behavior in children with autism; and supervised practicum courses. The curriculum fulfills the course requirements for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst examination.
Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND)
The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) training provides graduate and post-graduate level professionals from a variety of disciplines the necessary preparation for becoming future leaders in the field of Developmental disabilities for the improvement of the health of infants, children, and adolescents with disabilities. The program serves graduate, post-doctoral, continuing education healthcare professionals, and family members of children with disabilities. Students participate in 12 areas of leadership competency ensuring a high level of interdisciplinary clinical competence in providing health and related services for children with neuvelopmental disabilities and their familation
Clinical Child Psychology Program
The Clinical Child Psychology Program was established 1991 as a clinical training program with an emphasis in the specialty area of clinical child and adolescent psychology. In 2001, the Program was independently accredited by the American Psychological Association as a clinical psychology doctoral program with a child emphasis. As one of a select few clinical programs in the country specializing in children, adolescents, and families, students in the CCPP receive training from a core faculty with interests specific to developmental issues in psychology and benefit from diverse clinical and research opportunities with youth and families.
